PARISH PASTORAL FORUM

The Parish Pastoral Forum is the name we give to the Pastoral Council which exists in the Parish to assist and support the Parish Priest in carrying out his tasks. The role of the Parish Priest is primarily pastoral, so the focus of the Forum is also pastoral. Through its insights, expertise and advice, it endeavours to help the Parish Priest identify, implement, evaluate and develop those pastoral initiatives and policies best suited to the spread of the Gospel in Forest Hill.

The Council is a consultative body to the Parish Priest, who takes ultimate responsibility for all decisions in the Parish. As Parish Priest, Fr. Roman Kot is President of the Forum, As well as Fr. Roman, the Forum currently has nine members; each is appointed by the Forum to a particular job description.

The Forum has a Chair and a member for each of six areas of Parish life, plus an additional member who is responsible for promoting communications. The Forum also has a Secretary. The current members and their areas of responsibility are listed below.

Fr. Roman Kot is President of the Forum,
Chair - Rotated, currently Clare Thomson and Paul Ridout is the Secretary.

Kathleen Boyle is responsible for Liturgy and Prayer which involves the Parish's responsibility for proclaiming the Word of God, celebration of the Eucharist, Sacraments and the Liturgy, encouraging prayer life, especially family prayer.
It includes the following groups:

  • Liturgy Group,
  • Art Group,
  • Music Groups,
  • Flower Arrangers,
  • Children's Liturgy of the Word,
  • Family Mass Group,
  • Ministers,
  • Readers,
  • Servers,
  • Welcomers,
  • Collectors and Ushers.

Paul Barber is responsible for Education and Catechesis which involves evangelisation, catechesis and education of parishioners, educating the young in Christian values, providing opportunities for parishioners to deepen their understanding of their faith.
It includes the following groups and programmes:

  • Sacramental Preparation Programmes,
    ................... including Baptism, Reconciliation & Eucharist,

  • ..............................Confirmation, Marriage;
  • Adult Catechesis,
    .................including Journey in Faith and other initiatives;
  • School,
    ................including the Governing Body and SWoYSA;
  • Youth Groups,
    ............... including Scouts, Brownies and Servers.

Paula McDowell is responsible for the area of Pastoral Care which involves ensuring that the Parish fulfils its responsibilities which include reaching out to the poor and elderly and comforting the sick and dying.
It includes the following groups:

  • Pastoral Care Group,
  • Union of Catholic Mothers,
  • Knights of St Columba,
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion,
  • Association for Pastoral Care in Mental Health (APCMH),
  • Welcomers.

Liz and Steve Limb together share responsibility for Ecumenism & Social Justice, which involves promoting Ecumenism and Social Justice, reaching out to the poor and elderly. It includes the following groups:

  • Justice & Peace Group,
  • Churches Together in Forest Hill,
  • Union of Catholic Mothers,
  • ACTS Credit Union,
  • Knights of St Columba.

The area of Parish Life involves building up community and communion in the Parish. The post of a responsible person is currently vacant. It includes the following groups and events, spanning many other areas of Parish activities:

  • Social Events,
  • Parent & Toddler,
  • Youth Groups,
  • SWoYSA,
  • Union of Catholic Mothers,
  • Music Groups and any other Parish Group organising social events.

Peter Swift is responsible for the area of Committee which ensures that we are looking after the assets of the Parish and ordering them to facilitate our Mission. The area includes the following groups and individuals:

  • Cleaners,
  • Christmas Bazaar,
  • Maintenance,
  • Gift Aid Scheme and Parish

The forum has two co-opted members:
Gerard Johnson, who is responsible for Communication with the Parish at large;
Carol Kinch, who is also the Parish Child Protection Co-ordinator.
